Gemstone Jewelry Auction

Sotheby's in Hong Kong is preparing to hold a jewelry auction that is estimated to have a value of more than $60 million. The collection of gemstone jewelry and jadeite were put on view Monday. Included in the collection is a pair of Harry Winston diamond pendant earrings, which alone are estimated to sell for up to $4.8 million dollars.

Each earring consists of a huge pear-shaped diamond weighing over 14 carats, suspended below another oval diamond. Both of the Harry Winston diamonds are perfect D color internal flawless diamonds. Another centerpiece of the collection is a 27.67 carat Burmese ruby that is valued at up to $2.5 million. The ruby "pigeon's blood" diamond comes from Burma's Mogok mines, a region that is famous for these gems. In a nod to the auction's location, a jadeite bead necklace is also a featured item in the collection, with its clasp set with rubies, sapphires and diamonds. It is anticipated to fetch up to $4.5 million. The auction is set to be held on April 6.
